Our ratteries have put in a great deal of time, effort, and finances into breeding imported lines of rats with our local lines. They do not take breeding lightly and are very knowledgeable and experienced with the complexity of genetics and all else that goes with breeding.

See the Official SARBU website for more info.

While we do not have breeders in every area of South Africa, most (if not all) of our current breeders have safely and successfully flown rats from city to city at a small additional cost. Please find their contact details on their respective websites listed below:

Eastern Cape/KZN:

Little Squeakers Rattery – KZN – closed until further notice

Western Cape:

Jackalhead Rattery
Settican Rattery – closed until further notice
Wheatfields Rattery

Gauteng:

RASCALS Rescue – closed, RIP Maureen. Thanks for all you did xx
Whiskers Rattery – closed until further notice

Pretoria:

Mischief Rat RescueRN Approved
Pretoria RatteryRN Approved
Waverly Rattery – closed until further notice

If you feel this listing is out of date, please check the SARBU website for their listing.

“RN Approved” note: RN only accepts paid advertising from companies/ratteries we approve of, so you can be assured that we can personally vouch for organisations with this tag. It doesn’t necessarily mean the others aren’t good (we usually get to know everyone before adding them to the list, or we know someone who knows them well), but the RN Approved have opted to support RN with a small financial amount each year and are therefore highlighted.

    Hi.

I stay in a town called Matatiele in the Eastern Cape. I am a stay at home mom. My kids are age 10 and 7. I love Dumbo rats and would love to bread them in our area and introduce them to the people in this area. I think they are special. How can I go about it? Is there any way you can assist me in any way.

    Many thanks

Best is to contact the breeders and work something out with them. You would need pedrigree rats to start your lines, so you would need permission from the breeders in the first place. I can say we need more rescue/foster homes than breeders right now 🙂
