About Me

My name is Ashlee and I am the owner of Salem Ridge Rattery.
My love affair with rats began many years ago, but it is only in recent years that I have been in the position to keep and breed them. I have kept all manner of small rodents ranging from Siberian dwarf hamster and mice, right through to guinea pigs and rabbits. but found that rats were definitely the ones for me.

The Rattery

SRR specialises in breeding Sable Siamese Dumbo rats.

Sable Siamese is a colour related to Siamese, Himalayan & Albino rats.
Sable Siamese is different from the imported type of Siamese only in that it is a darker rat. Sable Siamese rats are born dark and fade until just their points (Nose, Tail and, in Self rats, feet) are dark pointed.
Imported Siamese rats are born light and develop points as they change.

SRR aims to breed rats that are of excellent type, wonderful temperament and brilliant colour.

For 2015, SRR will focus on breeding mainly Sable Siamese Dumbo rats, though other varieties may occasionally be avaliable.

      Hi there

Hairless rats do exist, but they were not imported into South Africa. They require special care as their skin is very delicate to care for and they require a special diet.
